A US Air Force HH-60G crashed near the Iraqi Syrian border,all 7 crew members were killed. The helicopter was taking part in Operation Inherent Resolve against the Islamic State terror group.
HH-60Gs are primarily used for combat search and rescue (CSAR), as well as CASEVAC. HH-60Gs are often already airborne during air operations in order to allow for a rapid response if any coalition aircraft crashes or is shot down. The unpredictable conditions in Iraq can at times lead to aviation accidents. There was no enemy fire reported in the area of the crash.
In addition just a day earlier a US Navy F/A-18F crashed during a training accident, both pilots were killed. The details of both accidents are under investigation.
